Course Objectives
By the end of this course students will know:
- Understand the anatomy and physiology of the facial lymphatic system
Gain a comprehensive understanding of the lymphatic structures in the head, neck, and face. Learn the pathways of lymphatic drainage, the location of key facial lymph nodes, and the role of the system in fluid balance and immune function in the cranial facial region. - Learn the principles and techniques of facial MLD
Study the history and foundational principles of MLD as they apply specifically to the face. Learn how gentle, rhythmic strokes following precise directional flow stimulate lymphatic function. Key techniques will include stationary circles, scooping, and effleurage adapted to delicate facial tissues. - Develop hands-on proficiency in applying MLD to the face and neck
Practice facial MLD techniques under supervision, focusing on accuracy, pressure, and rhythm. Learn protocols for areas such as the periorbital region, (area from the upper and lower eyelids to the eyebrows), cheeks, jawline, forehead and neck. - Recognize contraindications and ensure safe application
Identify when facial MLD is not appropriate, such as in cases of acute infection, active acne, or recent facial trauma. Learn to perform client assessments and recognize when to modify techniques or refer to another healthcare provider. - Apply MLD techniques within clinical and aesthetic settings
Learn how to integrate facial MLD into spa, skincare, and wellness practices. Understand its role in post-procedure care, acne management, and holistic facial treatments. Documentation, client communication, and treatment planning will also be covered.
